Suomussalmi's varied nature offers the traveller versatile ways of recreation. The Hossa camping area, the Martinselkonen preservation area and the Ylivuokki recreational area offer a nature lover a lot to do and experience.
Manmade hiking routes can be found all over the parish, and Hossa has excellent canoeing opportunities. During the winter there are mechanically tended ski tracks in the Haverinen Skiing Centre and Hossa. There are also ca. 350 km of tended motor sledge tracks in the municipality area. Kokkola-Camping is a nice an cosy 4-star camping-area, which is situated in the vicinity of the city-centre, the distance to the city-centre is about 2.5 kilometres. By walking along the shore of the city-strait you can reach the city-centre in under 30 minutes.
The camping-area is a part of the sea-park entity, which on a whole creates provides an awesome framework for an unforgettable holyday. On the Camping-area you can find:

- A Beach Volley playing field
